Reconciliation Week at Â鶹ֱ²¥

30 May 2025

Walking Forward Together

Â鶹ֱ²¥ commemorated National Reconciliation Week with assemblies across the Junior and Senior Schools, reflecting on the 2025 theme Bridging Now to Next and the importance of truth-telling, respectful relationships, and shared action.

At the Senior School Assembly on 29 May, held beneath the Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and Australian flags, Year 12 student Luke delivered a heartfelt Acknowledgement of Country, recognising the Cammeraygal people and inviting the Â鶹ֱ²¥ community to walk together towards meaningful change. Rev Benn followed with a Reconciliation Prayer before Mr Gene Ross, a Dharawal saltwater man living on Gadigal Country, delivered a compelling keynote address. Gene spoke of the importance of cultural connection, reminding students that “we walk together because we are all part of the story of this land.”

The Assembly also featured the unveiling of Indigenous-designed jerseys for Â鶹ֱ²¥’s AFL, Football and Rugby teams, presented by Kayden and a symbolic presentation of the match ball to the Rugby captain, by Dominic.

In the Junior School, Luke and Kayden led a special assembly, introducing our youngest students to the significance of National Reconciliation Week and key milestones in the journey towards recognition and justice, including the 1967 Referendum and the 1992 Mabo Decision. They spoke of the contributions of Indigenous leaders and encouraged all students to play their part in building a future founded on mutual respect and understanding.

Across both campuses, these moments served as a powerful reminder that reconciliation is not only about acknowledging the past, it is about walking forward together, with open hearts, shared responsibility, and a commitment to unity.
