Sporting matters are under the overall control of the Sportsmaster. There is also a Master-in-Charge for each sporting activity. The Education Act (1961) requires that all pupils must take part in physical education. In addition, the School requires each boy to take part in a full sports programme during the first five years of secondary schooling. The aim is to provide each boy with two afternoons of sport on weekdays after school as well as a match on Saturdays. To operate this scheme, sport is compulsory in Years 7-10, and in the first three terms of Year 11. Year 12 boys must complete a season of sport begun in Term 4 of Year 11 by continuing into Term 1 Year 12. The School encourages boys in Year 12 to play sport in Terms 2 and 3 believing it wise to keep a proper balance between academic work and physical activity. As a result a large number continue to enjoy the sports programme and to benefit in various ways, including in their studies.
The following list indicates those sports presently available to the boys for each season and Year.
